Movie: “Hitsville: The Making of Motown”
Orchestra Hall enjoys the distinction of being the only movie theater on the Marblehead Peninsula and Ottawa County. It is a historic theater to watch new and classic films.
Lakeside will feature the movie “Hitsville: The Making of Motown” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27. The movie is free, but Lakeside Chautauqua values donations to support these types of programs.
As a warmup to The Sounds of Soul concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 in Hoover Auditorium, view this documentary on the making of the legendary American music company, Motown Records.
This film focuses on the birth of Motown in Detroit in 1958 to its relocation to Los Angeles in the early 1970s. The movie tracks the unique system assembled that enabled Motown to become the most successful record label of all time.
The documentary features the stories of Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, William Stevenson, Valerie Simpson, Mary Wilson and more. (TV-14, 1h 52m)
