Lakeside favorite Jon Torrence performs Saturday, June 29 from 2-4 p.m. on the Pavilion West Deck
Torrence is a Michigan-based singer-songwriter and the creative force behind The Native Heart, a musical group whose soul-tinged brand of pop, folk, and Americana helps to tell relatable and poetic stories of life. The music boasts melodic hooks, rhythmic vibes and intentional narratives, and at the core of the songs is a love of creation and storytelling.
Torrence’s early influences were jazz musicians and folk artists, so storytelling and feeling have been at the forefront of his music from the beginning.
After hearing artists like Jimi Hendrix, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews and John Mayer, he taught himself guitar as he delved into writing his own music.
His music blends soulful pop, Americana and rock, all with a jazz influence. His belief in the importance of human connection is the main driver for his desire to share music, and he hopes that it resonates with whoever has a chance to listen.
