Join us in celebrating the end of this week’s Chautauqua Jazz Experience with a closing night concert with the Ohio Jazz All-Stars at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 in Hoover Auditorium.
Following the format of the famous Jazz at the Philharmonic, this concert features the artists-in-residence and special guests from Ohio’s jazz scene together for one great night of music.
The concert features Sam Blakeslee (trombone), Chris Coles (saxophone), Dean Helutt (bass), Jerry Powell (drums), Jackie Warren (piano) and vocalists Evelyn Wright and Michael Shirtz.
The concert will open with participants sharing selections from their experience in the Chautauqua Jazz Workshop.
Jazz at the Philharmonic was produced by Norman Granz beginning in the mid 1940s-1980s. This incredible series is responsible for bringing jazz out of the club scene and onto the concert hall stages – making jazz artists regular household names, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Lester Young, Stan Getz, Louie Bellson, Roy Eldridge, J.J. Johnson, and so many others.
These concerts started in the U.S. but soon found themselves in tours crossing the globe and launching the popular careers and famous recordings by these legendary musicians.
If you love jazz music, take part in our Chautauqua Lecture Series, special performances and workshops this week. Pre-registration is required for workshops.
The event is finished.
