Summer Closing Celebration

To cap off our commemoration of Lakeside’s 150th Chautauqua season, the community will gather for the Summer Closing Celebration at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3 in Hoover Auditorium.

The fun will begin as Chip Richter and John Wilkie delight the crowd with favorite songs from their repertoire. Enjoy a slideshow of pictures from the season on the big screen. Come, watch and re-live the Fourth of July parade, Sailing Regatta, Hoover shows, the fun on Walnut Plaza and much more.

Michael and Pamela Shirtz and the Chautauqua Choir will present special music. The evening will be a time of looking back over the summer and looking toward the future.

During the celebration, we will also seal the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule containing a collection of memorabilia from this milestone year. Thank you to the many Lakesiders of all ages who have been writing letters to be placed in the time capsule, which will be opened on Lakeside’s 200th Anniversary in the year 2073.

To conclude the evening, all participants will be invited to light a candle of hope as we look toward the next 150 years at Lakeside Chautauqua. Hoover Auditorium will become a beautiful sight with hundreds of candles shining in the darkness.

Prior to the celebration, the WGTE documentary, “Lakeside Chautauqua: An American Treasure,” will be shown at 6:15 p.m. in Hoover Auditorium.

Although the summer is coming to an end, Lakeside remains a year-round destination for families and groups.
