Iconic American rock band The Grass Roots will perform in Hoover Auditorium Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

In 1965, Rob Grill and three others teamed up with mega-hit producer Steve Barri to form The Grass Roots. For almost 50 years, they have been one of the most recognized groups on classic rock stations.

During that time, The Grass Roots have averaged 100 live performances each year and have appeared on more than 50 national television shows, including “The Tonight Show,” “The Today Show,” “Ed Sullivan” and “Good Morning America.” They have sold over 20 million records worldwide.

Along with these impressive accolades, The Grass Roots have also accomplished many more amazing feats, including holding the all-time records for a one-act U.S. concert by performing for 600,000 people on July 4, 1982 in Washington, D.C. and setting a record between 1967-1972 by being on the Billboard charts an unbelievable 307 straight weeks. “Midnight Confessions,” “Sooner or Later,” “Two Divided by Love,” and “Temptation Eyes” are just some of their classic hits.

Dusty Hanvey is the lead guitarist and vocalist and takes on the title of The Grass Roots’ Road Manager. He has been with the band for over 35 years. Larry Nelson has been performing The Grass Roots’ memorable keyboard lines in countless venues across North America for 35+ years.

For over 30 years, drummer Joe Dougherty has been pounding out some of classic rock’s greatest hits with one of the genre’s most accomplished bands. Mark Dawson has been a part of The Grass Roots for more than a decade and has made a big impression on die-hard fans and audiences everywhere. His lead vocals bring to life the classic Grass Roots sound that America has loved for almost 50 years.
